My research focuses on the preservation of organics (soft tissues, microorganisms) in siliciclastic environments. Using an experimental taphonomy approach, I aim to better understand how organisms are preserved in the rock record and to identify environmental conditions most conducive to the fossilization of labile organic material. This work has implications for the fossil record on early Earth and can also highlight sites, facies, and minerals most likely to preserve ancient biosignatures on other terrestrial planets, such as Mars.
