Uncovering the intramolecular carbon cycle

I’m a stable isotope geochemist studying the ‘intramolecular carbon cycle,’ specifically the processes that generate and modify the isotopic structures of reduced and oxidized carbon compounds on the Earth’s surface and in the shallow crust. My tools are clumped and site-specific isotope ratio measurements of intact moieties using high-resolution mass spectrometry. I apply these tools in projects furthering our understanding of the preservation of paleoclimate records, the storage and maturation of organic matter, shallow-crustal fluid flow, deformation and metamorphism, and the interaction between life and substrate in the deep biosphere.

I'm just wrapping up my PhD with John Eiler at Caltech, and looking forward to a postdoctoral position at UC Berkley in 2018
