Christopher Spalding

Welcome to my website. I am currently a 5th (and final) year Ph.D. student in the Division of Geological and Planetary Sciences at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). My thesis work is primarily focussed on studying the mechanisms governing planetary formation and their subsequent dynamical evolution. However, my interests range widely. I have written about how stars might become flipped on their heads, asked how costly ocean acidification is to shellfish and wondered about how species go extinct over time. Starting in summer 2018, I shall be beginning postdoctoral work at Yale University, where I hope to continue work within both realms of planetary science and biology, with the goal of placing our own planet Earth within a broader, galactic understanding. Feel free to read about these and my other interests, or check out my published work. I welcome comments/discussion/questions.
